What is an EMDR Intensive?

An EMDR intensive is an extended EMDR therapy session that provides more time and space for focused trauma processing. Instead of being limited by a traditional therapy hour, intensives allow the work to unfold with more flexibility while still following the same EMDR phases.

Some clients come to EMDR feeling ready to begin processing but building the foundation and emotional safety for trauma work takes time. Once processing begins, a standard session can sometimes end just as meaningful work is unfolding. Longer sessions create more room to stay connected to the process without feeling rushed. Research on EMDR backs this up with longer sessions linked to greater relief from anxiety and depression.

EMDR intensives are flexible and personalized to your needs. Some clients transition between weekly sessions and intensives depending on where they are in their healing process while others use intensives as a consistent part of their EMDR work. The goal is to create the time and space that best supports you and your nervous system.

Are EMDR Intensives Right for You?

EMDR intensives offer a different way to do trauma therapy. Instead of working only within a 50-minute session, we set aside more time to focus on the experiences that are keeping you stuck. Some people use intensives as part of their ongoing therapy, while others choose them when weekly therapy hourly does not feel like the right fit.

Sometimes you just need more time to do the work

"Just when it feels like we're getting somewhere, the session is over"

“I’m ready to work through what happened and stop feeling so stuck”

“I already have a therapist I trust. I just want more time to focus on this one thing”

"Something traumatic happened recently and I don't want to carry it with me for years"

Already Have a Therapist? EMDR Intensives Can Be Part of Your Current Therapy

You don’t have to choose between the therapist you trust and EMDR support. Many people continue working with their current therapist while adding EMDR intensives for more focused trauma processing.

With your permission, I’m happy to collaborate with your therapist so your care feels connected. I also welcome referrals from therapists who want to support their clients in accessing EMDR while maintaining their existing therapeutic relationship.

EMDR Intensives for Birth Trauma, Pregnancy Loss and Infertility

Reproductive trauma doesn't always look the same. For some people, it's the emergency C-section that still replays in their mind or hearing there was no heartbeat. For others, it's years of infertility, medical appointments, procedures and hoping this cycle will finally be different. There can be a lot to work through and for some people an hour just isn't enough time.
Extended EMDR sessions give us more time to stay with the work when it matters most. Rather than stopping just as your nervous system begins processing, we have space to continue, pause when needed and help you leave feeling grounded before returning to your day.

One of the things I love most about extended EMDR sessions is that they make this work more accessible. You don't have to travel for a retreat or disappear for several days. You can receive focused trauma therapy from home in a format that better fits the realities of pregnancy, postpartum, infertility or parenting.

As a PMH-C therapist with advanced EMDR training, I understand the unique ways reproductive experiences can become traumatic. Whether you're processing birth trauma, pregnancy loss, infertility or another difficult medical experience, we'll build a plan that fits both your goals and your life.

Meet Caitlin Senger, LPC, PMH-C

Caitlin Senger, LPC, wearing glasses with brown wavy hair, standing in front of a therapy couch. EMDR therapist offering EMDR intensive therapy in Texas.

Hi, I’m Caitlin. I’m a licensed professional counselor and trauma therapist with additional training in EMDR, perinatal mental health and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

I work with people who have been through difficult experiences and are ready to work through the impact those experiences have had on their lives. It could be a single traumatic event or maybe many experiences that have shaped you.

My background in perinatal mental health and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy allows me to support clients who may be navigating infertility, pregnancy, birth, loss, identity or other major life changes. These areas often overlap but trauma work is not limited to these experiences.

EMDR intensives can be such a powerful tool when you’re ready to focus on trauma work. The additional time allows us to go deeper, stay with the work longer and create space for progress that can be harder to access in shorter sessions.
