The Heart of The Work
Losing a pregnancy can feel like the ground dropped out from under you while the world around you kept moving. One moment you’re imagining your future and the next you’re learning how to breathe inside a goodbye you weren’t ready for.
There is so much love with nowhere to go. Love for your baby, for the life that could have been, for the moments that were real even if no one else saw them. You made plans, counted weeks, fantasized about names and imagined who your baby would grow up to be. Grief is all that love with nowhere to go. It doesn’t follow rules or timelines, no matter how much the world expects you to “be okay” by now.
Cosmic Daisy exists to hold that space. A place where your baby is seen and remembered, where your grief is honored and where your heart is treated with care. You don’t have to explain why this hurts. You don’t have to shrink your love or your sorrow. And you don’t have to carry it alone.
A Therapist Who Understands
Pregnancy loss isn’t just a loss you can put away. It changes your body, your heart and the way you see the world. I know from personal experience what it’s like to carry love for babies the world never got to meet. It changes everything and very few understand what that’s like unless they’ve been through it themselves.
At Cosmic Daisy (a name that carries the story behind this work), I create a space where your grief is seen, your baby is remembered, and your experience is met with so much care and understanding. You don’t have to explain why your loss hurts, defend your feelings or make them smaller. Here, it’s enough to simply bring what you’re carrying.

(PMH-C)Lived Experience of Pregnancy Loss
Pregnancy loss is not one experience. It can happen before anyone else knew you were pregnant, after months of planning and dreaming or after you've already met your baby. Whatever your story looks like, your grief belongs here.
Every Loss Belongs Here
Miscarriage
The moment you found out you were pregnant, something shifted. Losing that pregnancy by miscarriage can mean grieving the future you had already begun to imagine. Grief isn't measured by weeks and neither is the significance of your loss.
Stillbirth
Stillbirth can bring profound grief alongside deep trauma. You may be navigating the experience of labor and delivery, returning home without your baby, physical recovery, and trying to make sense of a future that changed in an instant.
Chemical Pregnancy
A chemical pregnancy can bring a unique kind of grief because others may not recognize it as a real loss. You may have barely had time to process that you were pregnant before everything changed, leaving you to carry your grief alone.
Ectopic Pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy can bring layers of grief that others may not fully understand. You may be grieving the pregnancy you hoped for while also processing a medical emergency, changes to your body, and fears about what this experience may mean for your future fertility.
You are not alone
About 1 in 4 recognized pregnancies ends in miscarriage.
Stillbirth affects approximately 21,000 families each year in the United States.
Statistics don't make your loss any easier, but they can remind you that you are not the only person carrying this kind of grief.
Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
Recurrent pregnancy loss can change the way you experience pregnancy, hope, and the future you imagined. You may find yourself grieving not only the pregnancies you've lost, but also the way pregnancy once felt like a place of possibility, excitement, and hope.
Infant Loss
The death of a baby after birth changes every expectation you had for the future. Grief after infant loss can feel isolating and overwhelming, especially when the world continues moving while yours has stopped.
Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR)
TFMR can bring a unique kind of grief because it often involves loving a baby while facing an impossible decision. You may be grieving a pregnancy you deeply wanted while processing the diagnosis, the decisions you had to make and the pain of feeling like you do not have permission to grieve.
Molar Pregnancy
A molar pregnancy often brings the grief of pregnancy loss alongside unexpected medical treatment, monitoring, and uncertainty about the future. It can be difficult to find others who understand this unique experience, but your loss deserves care and compassion.
What Makes Pregnancy Loss Different
Pregnancy loss is not only the loss of a pregnancy. It is the loss of your baby and the future you were already beginning to imagine. There is often no funeral. No bereavement leave. Sometimes no acknowledgement that your loss happened at all. There is no timeline for this kind of grief and no single “right” way to heal.
You May Find Yourself:
Grieving intensely while feeling invisible to others
Questioning your body or blaming yourself
Feeling disconnected, numb or overwhelmed
Struggling with anxiety, anger or sadness that comes in waves
Feeling uncertain about the future or future pregnancies
Things People Say:
“At least it happened early”
“At least you know you can get pregnant”
“You can always try again”
“Everything happens for a reason”
“They are in a better place”
“At least you already have one child”
Navigating changes in relationships after loss and making space for different grief responses, emotions and ways of coping
Making space for pregnancy after loss, including the fear, anxiety and uncertainty that can come with being pregnant again when every appointment, scan and milestone can bring up memories of what happened before
Processing pregnancy loss after infertility and the complicated emotions that can come with a longer path to parenthood
Carrying both love and grief after loss
How Pregnancy Loss Counseling Can Help
Processing the emotional and physical trauma of your loss with the help of EMDR
Exploring complicated or conflicting emotions
Honoring your baby and your experience in ways that feel meaningful
Rebuilding trust in your body and your sense of safety
Finding ways to move through the reminders of loss, from due dates and baby showers to pregnancy announcements, Mother's Day, anniversaries and seeing others' pregnancies
When Pregnancy Loss is Also Trauma
Pregnancy loss can bring both grief and trauma but they are not the same thing. Grief is the pain of losing your baby and the future you imagined. Trauma is when certain moments keep coming back, like the ultrasound where you heard there was no heartbeat, the procedure, the delivery or the moment you found out something had changed.
After a loss, you may be carrying both. You may be grieving what happened while also feeling stuck in memories that are hard to move past. EMDR therapy can help process the parts of your loss that feel traumatic, while talk therapy can support the grief that comes with losing your baby and the future you hoped for. You can learn more about this on our EMDR Therapy service page.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pregnancy Loss Counseling
-
A pregnancy loss therapist is a licensed mental health professional with training and experience in supporting people after miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy termination for medical reasons and other forms of pregnancy loss. They understand the unique grief, trauma and emotional challenges that can follow these experiences.
Pregnancy loss is different from many other kinds of grief and it helps to work with someone who understands that. As a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist with advanced EMDR training, I have specialized training in supporting people through pregnancy loss and reproductive mental health.

Yes, grieving deeply after a miscarriage is a normal response to losing your baby, and there is no right amount of grief or timeline for how long it should last. The depth of your grief is not determined by how far along you were, how many people knew about the pregnancy or whether this was your first loss.
Many people worry they are "still not over it" or wonder if they should be coping better by now. You are not grieving the wrong way, and you do not have to rush yourself through this loss.
-
There is no timeline for grief after pregnancy loss and no expectation that you should be "over it" by a certain time. For some people, the intensity softens over time. For others, certain dates, places or milestones can bring the grief back just as strongly, even years later.
Grief often changes more than it disappears. You may always miss your baby, but you do not have to stay stuck in the deepest part of your grief forever.
-
It may be time to see a therapist after a miscarriage if you feel like you are getting through each day but not really functioning, if you can't stop replaying what happened, if your grief feels isolating or if you find yourself avoiding people, places or situations because they feel too painful. You do not have to wait until things become unbearable to ask for support.
Some people reach out days after their loss, while others do months or even years later when the grief catches up with them. There is no wrong time to begin therapy, but you also do not have to convince yourself that you are struggling "enough" before you deserve help.
-
Yes, therapy can still help even if your pregnancy loss happened years or decades ago because grief does not have an expiration date and many people carry the pain of their loss for a long time before ever talking about it. It is never too late to process what happened.
Sometimes the grief becomes more noticeable around an anniversary, a new pregnancy or simply because life has finally slowed down enough to feel it. Whatever brings you here now, your loss still matters.
-
Grief counseling can help with many different kinds of loss, while pregnancy loss therapy focuses on the unique experiences that can follow miscarriage, stillbirth and other forms of pregnancy loss. It recognizes that this grief is often complicated by trauma, changes in your relationship with your body, future pregnancy fears, medical experiences and the silence that so often surrounds pregnancy loss.
You should not have to explain why this loss still matters or why it feels different from other kinds of grief. Working with someone who understands those experiences can help you feel seen from the very beginning.
-
Yes, EMDR can help process the traumatic experiences that can come with pregnancy loss especially when certain memories keep replaying, your body still reacts as if it is happening again or talking about what happened has not helped you feel any different.
Pregnancy loss is both a grief experience and for many people, a traumatic one. EMDR therapy can help you work through the memories that feel stuck while making space for the grief, love and meaning connected to your loss. You can learn more about EMDR Therapy here.

Yes, It is very common for partners to grieve a pregnancy loss in different ways and there is no single “right” way to respond. One person may need to talk about what happened often while the other may become quieter or cope by trying to stay busy. Different grief responses do not mean one person cared more than the other.
Pregnancy loss can affect both people, but it does not always affect them in the same way or on the same timeline. Sometimes understanding these differences can help you have more compassion for yourself and each other as you move through the loss.
-
Yes, I offer pregnancy loss counseling after stillbirth for people who are trying to make sense of losing their baby, the experience of giving birth without bringing their baby home and the grief that follows. Stillbirth can leave you holding both the love you already had for your baby and the pain of everything that changed.
Some people find themselves replaying the moments around the loss, struggling with reminders or feeling like the world moved on before they were ready. Therapy can be a place to talk about what happened and the ways it continues to affect you.
-
Yes, I offer pregnancy loss counseling after termination for medical reasons. A termination for medical reasons can bring a complicated kind of grief because you're grieving a baby you deeply wanted while also knowing you made the decision you felt was the most loving one possible.
Many people struggle with the questions that come after including “what if,” guilt, sadness, anger or wondering if others understand what this loss meant. Therapy can be a place to process the grief, the decision and the complicated emotions that can come with a loss like this.
-
Yes, therapy can help with the fear and anxiety that often come with pregnancy after loss. Many people find themselves wanting to feel hopeful while also feeling afraid to get attached, trust their body or believe that this pregnancy will have a different outcome.
I offer support for the emotional side of pregnancy after loss, including the worry that can come with appointments, milestones and trying to move forward while still remembering what happened before. You can learn more about Pregnancy & Postpartum support here.
-
Yes, I offer online pregnancy loss counseling throughout Texas including Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and communities across the state. Virtual therapy makes it possible to access support from home which can feel especially important when you are grieving and leaving the house feels like more than you can manage.

You do not have to tell the whole story of your pregnancy loss right away. Sometimes the hardest part is saying the words out loud, especially when the loss still feels too painful, too fresh or too complicated to explain.
We can start wherever you are even if that means talking about how you have been getting through the days, what has been hardest recently or simply that you do not know where to begin. You do not have to have the right words before reaching out.
You Are Not Alone
Whether your loss was recent or years ago, early or later in pregnancy, shared with others or kept close to your heart, you are welcome here.
You don’t have to face this alone. Support is available whenever you’re ready.
